You know, I never thought I’d try a table shower, but life has a way of forcing you to try new things.
For those who don’t know, a table shower is a spa treatment in which you lie on a waterproof table and are sprayed with warm water in a regular, relaxing way. But reading about it doesn’t really get you ready for how it feels. Let me tell you about my experience, including all the little things, the feelings, and the surprising things I found along the way.
Why Did I Go to a Spa?
A friend told me I should try a full spa treatment, which included a table shower. At first, I wasn’t sure. Didn’t a regular massage do the trick? What did a table shower really involve? If I’m being honest, some of my ideas were way off. But I was interested, so I made an appointment at a respected spa that is known for its hydrotherapy treatments.
When I got there, the mood put me at ease right away. Before anything even began, the soft lighting, the smell of essential oils in the air, and the soothing background music made me feel calm. After I checked in, I was given a soft robe and shown to a private room where I could change.
Going Into the Treatment Room
I was shown by the therapist to the room where the table shower would happen. I had never seen anything like that set up before. A tiled room had a long, plush table in the middle of it. There was a drain under it. On a horizontal bar above it, a set of showerheads was fixed. The walls were covered in beautiful stone tiles that made the room feel like a spa.
Before we began, the therapist told us how it would work. She told me that it was all professional and meant to help me relax and feel better. In addition, she told me I could wear disposable knickers if it made me feel better. However, most people choose not to because the process feels like being in a bath.
What Warm Water Feels Like
As the therapist turned on the water, a warm towel was put over me once I was on the table. The first thing I felt was pure bliss: warm water falling over my body like soft rain. The weather was just right—not too hot or too cold. It was a comforting warmth that took away any stress right away.
At first, the therapist used a mobile showerhead, which gave me time to get used to it. Then she turned on the Vichy shower system, which made several streams of water come down at the same time. It felt like a warm summer rainstorm, but it was the safest and most relaxed way possible.
Getting a Scrub and Massage
Soon after letting me enjoy the feeling for a while, she started the cleaning process. She worked in circular motions with a light scrub that had essential oils mixed in. This got rid of dead skin cells and made my skin feel so soft. Using warm water and the scrub together made me feel very relaxed, which I wasn’t expecting.
After she was done exfoliating, she rinsed me off and gave me a light rub. It wasn’t a deep-tissue massage; instead, it was a gentle rub with oil that locked in moisture. Right now, I was in a state of pure happiness. It felt like all the stress had been washed away with the scrub.
Surprisingly Good for Your Mind
The most surprising thing to me wasn’t how good my face felt afterward, but how clear my mind was. There was something very calming about lying there and feeling the warm water and soft hands work together. It was almost like hitting the “reset” button for my mind, which was a pleasant surprise.
Would I Do It Again?
Of course. I felt better after the experience, both physically and mentally. A sensory trip that I didn’t even know I needed. It was more than just a spa treatment.
If you’ve been considering trying a table shower, I can personally attest to its worth. You should make that meeting if you want to find the best way to relax, recharge, and get out of your comfort zone. I promise that your mind and body will thank you.
